內容特點：
1. 收錄與孝行有關的報恩經、父母恩重經、目連變，與福報有關的福田經，與佛教戒律有關的戒律畫和梵網經，此外，還有與武則天稱帝有關的寶雨經，與俗講變文有關的勞度叉鬥聖變。畫面美麗，內容豐富多姿。
2. 透過和經變畫出現的時間及流行情況，分析由北朝到宋元1000年間的孝道、行善、守戒、民間信仰和娛樂等的起伏興替。
3. 由報恩各經、福田和戒律畫，充份見出儒佛合流、佛教信徒的守戒行善要求的歷史潮流，是中國思想研究的重要材料。
