Abstract慧能從承認一般人現實地存在迷妄的事實出發,在對於佛教經教的處理上,不主張廢棄佛教的經教文字,而認為主要關鍵在於,要以禪宗的自性本源融通般若教理,要以佛教的經教教理啟發自性本有的般若智慧,將般若智慧落實到自性本源中實踐、實證,並最終在作為自性本源的當下、現前一念中,打破迷妄,獲得覺悟,自證本源.慧能主張在禪宗頓法的基礎上以禪融教而禪教融通,以頓融漸而頓漸融通,慧能的教學精神是非常平實的.馬祖道一繼承了慧能的禪思想,但馬祖道一更強調從自心本來是佛的理論前提出發,與慧能在禪宗頓法的基礎上以禪融教而禪教融通、以頓融漸而頓漸融通的教學精神不同,而是更為有意識地擺脫經教的正面說教,更為有意識地強調著眼于超越教、漸的本來無迷無悟的自心自證境界,因而在教學精神上更為突出禪宗頓法相對獨立於教、漸的超絕性,同時在具體的教學方法上大開後世機鋒棒喝的先河.從教學精神上來說,慧能是從如來禪過渡到祖師禪的核心和關鍵人物,而馬祖則是使祖師禪得以大肆開展的關鍵人物.本文認為,慧能與馬祖在佛教禪宗中的地位,類似於孔子與孟子在儒家,老子與莊子在道家中的地位.
