Abstract本文是想從倫理學的觀念來考察《聲聞地》所論的「種姓」與「無種姓」,藉此來看佛教倫理之若干特色,並且也希望能從「涅槃」的個案討論中,尋求出普遍性的原則,而能對一般的倫理之促進有所裨益.

《聲聞地》的修行目標是「涅槃」,其出發點建立於「種性」,具「先天的」「永遠的」性質. 「種性」的本質為「六處所攝」,是六種感官中具特別潛在力之存在. 住種性補特伽羅當有「四因緣」或「八難」時,不能證得涅槃; 若遇「涅槃法緣」則可證得涅槃. 因此「種性」是以證得涅槃的可能性,本質而被重視,並非絕對的保證.

「住種性者」諸相的描述是以「無種性者」之六種相來討論,在《聲聞地》「種性論」中,可看出「信解」「慚愧」「純真」等三個德目是最重要的. 而世間一般善的實踐,亦應以信解善的功德,有慚有愧,純真之動機為重.
