Abstract本文依據天台六祖湛然及四明知禮的教學,探討天台性
惡說,佛性說,及和《起信論》的關係,山家山外的諍論.

首先討論六祖湛然的教學:湛然認為《法華經》優於其
餘經典,採取法華超八的見解; 對佛性主張無情有性說,
瓦石草木皆能成佛; 將《起信論》採入天台教義,藉此確立
天台教學對華嚴的優越性. 其次論述性惡說的展開:性惡說
可從《觀音玄義》得到直接資料,從智顗一念三千思想導出
,經六祖湛然,四明知禮的發揮,成天台思想特色. 接著
說明山家山外兩系統之傳承,諍論的問題所在. 繼則說明四
明知禮教學的特色:知禮確實把握住智顗與湛然的教學,透
過對《起信論》的批判,批判華嚴性起思想,此即別理隨緣
的論諍. 依據《四念處》<節節皆觀一念無明心> 等文,主
張妄心觀; 與門下仁岳針對佛身問題展開生身尊特的論諍.
最後略述知禮以後天台的開展.
