Abstract據天台宗智者大師的判教,五時說法的內容概括了佛的全部教義,而說法的方式則為分別說與非分別說,把握這個觀念,才能了解天台圓教.

分別說就是用分解的方式說,大小乘的分別即是分別說. 小乘又有聲聞,緣覺; 大乘又有阿賴耶緣起,如來藏緣起及中觀系統,這些都是分別說. 天台宗認為中觀系統是通教,屬大小乘共法,其觀法來自般若經,而基本精神則是「不壞假名,而說諸法實相」的非分別說.

天台宗系統出自龍樹的般若學,兩者卻不盡相同,般若只是共法,觀法,而無分別說,對一切法無根源性的說明. 天台宗則以一念三千及一心三觀作為存有論與觀法上的不諍(非分別說),一經一緯,交格相成,而稱圓教.

天台之宗法華經,因其特殊性在開權顯實,直暢佛陀本懷,了解般若經與法華經,便能更了解天台宗.
