AbstractAn her examination of an extraordinary group of Tibetan sculptures known as the Three Protectors, including a circa 12th century triad in silver, brass and tin alloy of Manjusri (文殊師利菩薩),Avalokitesvara (觀音菩薩) and Vajrapani (金剛手菩薩) in the Pritzker collection, the author suggests that this triad,a prodigy of casting and aesthetic refinement, may have been the model for the principal statue of the Khojarnath chapel, thus establishing why the Khojarnath image was one of the most famous sculptures in Tibetan history and why the shrine was revered as a collaboration of Kasmir and Nepalese artists.
