| Abstract | 在各中國佛教學派中，論思想的豐富和圓熟，當首推華嚴宗，而「緣起」和「性起」，乃是華嚴宗思想的主觀念。華嚴宗的思想體系，為法藏 (643-712)所創立，而法藏師事智儼(602-668)，其學說多取法智儼；故智儼可說是中國華嚴教學的先驅。本文對智儼現存著作論及「緣起」和「性起」的主章節，詳細作出分析，以顯示這兩觀念在早期中國華嚴教學裏的意義和關係。
智儼以發揚《華嚴經》的教旨為其學說的旨歸，其對「緣起」和「性起」觀念的申釋，都是以《華嚴經》的教法為依據。智儼稱《華嚴經》所講說的緣起為「法界緣起」，以為它有「染」，「淨」兩門，前者亦為其他大乘經典所述，後者則唯見於《華嚴經》，為《華嚴經》的緣起觀的特色所在。智儼把後者進而界別為本有，本有修生，修生，修生本有四門，詳加闡述；而中的前兩門所言，據本文分析所見，也便即是「性起」。如是看，在智儼的學說裏，「性起」乃是「緣起」的一部份。又無論談「緣起」或是談「性起」，智儼都提到有究竟真實的覺性，作為「起」的本據。他稱呼這覺性為「如來藏」，並一再引用《不增不減經》，《大乘起信論》這些如來藏系經典的話，來說明這覺性的作用和特點，顯示其「緣起」和「性起」思想跟如來藏思想關切的密切。 |
