AbstractAt the beginning,I apologize for changing the title of this paper from "'Erh-ju ssu-hsing lun' and the Teaching of Bodhidharma" into "History of the Studies on the Texts of 'Erh-ju ssu-hsing lun'". The reason of changing the title is that the problem of the texts of 'Erh-ju ssu-hsing' has recently come to the final resolution at the first time in sixty-five years since the first text of 'Erh-ju ssu-hsing lun',Hsiu (宿) 99 of Pei-ching Collection of Tun-huang MSS.,had discovered and introduced by D. T. Suzuki. So I intended to focus the problem of texts only, and to pursue the historical process of researching them.

The first,I refer to the list of the texts known by the researchers through the book,'Daruma (Bodhidharma)' by Seizan Yanagida, that is, there are seven pieces of Tun-huang MSS. Of Hsiu (宿) 99 of Pei-ching Collection,S. 2715,S.3375V (Verso),of Stein Collection, and P. 2923,P. 3018V,P. 4634V,P. 4795 of Pelliot Collection, one printed text compiled in 'Shan-men ts'o-yao' 1st Vol. in Korea, and three pieces of Tun-huang MSS. of Tibetan translation.

The second,I introduce four theses of my own,in which I have researched the texts of S. 3375V,P. 3018V,P. 4634V,P. 2923 and P. 4795,and also reported the new text,S. 7159. After that,I mention that On Ikeda and Makoto Okano having researched the law texts (Recto of the texts) reported the new text,S. 1880V,and Seizan Yanagida also made clear the fact that P. 2923 and P. 4795 were originally undivided through his studies of the result of Hiromitsu Obata and Katsumi Okimoto.

The third, adding to On Ikeda and Makoto Okano's research, I report that Yoshikazu Dohi discovered new text,S.11146 and said that this text had firstly used for Law text, after that,it had secondly used for Zen Buddhist text, and had finally used for the cover of the Buddhist sutras.

The fourth, I mention that Koyu Shiina newly discovered and introduced 'Pu-t'i t'a-mo ssu-hsing lun' which had been published at the 8th year of T'ien-shuen (天順) (1464) in Korea, and kept in Tenri Library in Japan. This new text could supply perfectly the omission of the end part of the texts ever known, and made an epoch-making role to resolve the text problem.

The fifth finally,I show the sentence of the end part of the text, comparing the T'ien-shuen edition with the Tun-huang text ever know, and translate it into Japanese. It means my conclusion for long time research of this text.

In the P. S.,I introduce the nearest result by Ryuzo Nakajima who studied the contents of the text that showed us the coming direction of the study of this text.
