Abstract我們要看中國佛教的禪觀,不能從唐代開始,應回到漢朝,佛教剛傳入中國時,已有人在修禪了. 尤其西晉. 東晉. 南北朝,被稱為禪師的人多得是. 而後,禪形成專宗,乃至中國佛教形成專宗,隋唐時最明顯. 慧能大師不是有意要創立一個獨立的禪宗宗派,是傳到他的徒弟,像石頭希遷. 百丈懷海,而更成氣候的是第三代,所以慧能傳到第三代時,中國祖師禪開始形成,或說是更明顯的形成.
至於南傳常談的「四念處」禪法,其實在漢傳所翻譯的漢文經典裡都有,包括這個傳承也是有,像安高最早把佛法帶過來,就是「安那般那念」. 這種數息的修法,一定會談到四念處. 另外,天台宗算是止觀最集大成的,智者大師談的《小止觀》.《釋禪般若蜜》.《摩訶止觀》,幾乎把大小乘各種禪觀的法門集成了. 現在的台灣佛教重要的工作是:怎樣把我們自古以來就有的禪觀法門發揚出來,這是更重要的.
