Abstract四、回歸之代價禪宗在中國佛教史上的革新成功,是以生命為代價的。禪宗六位祖師各人的遭遇便是最好的証明。初祖達摩來華見梁武帝,話不投機〔72〕,而“一葦渡江”〔73〕,說明達摩“不立文字,直指心源”不為上流社會所容納。達摩遂於“嵩山少林寺面壁而坐,終日默然,人莫之測,謂之壁觀婆羅門。”〔74〕這說明達摩之“有為之善,非真功德”無法為普通民眾所接受〔75〕。達摩傳教時,時常受到“取相存見之流”的譏謗,只得到道育、惠可等少數人的認同〔76〕。又據《歷代法寶記》記載,達摩先後六次被義學沙門下毒,第六次終於中毒身亡。
