| Abstract | 傳教士翻譯中國佛教經典,譯什麼,怎麼譯,都是經過其精心選擇的。雖說他們佛教詞典、佛經的英譯,仍是在言說"自我",宣揚福音,但客觀上促進了中國佛教的西傳以及西方漢學的發展。與明清之際的耶穌會士以及那些保守的新教傳教士一味地排斥中國佛教不同。研究當年傳教士中國佛教典籍英譯的得與失,對今日中西宗教文化交往不無重要的現實意義。
Abstract:
Not until the Late Qing dynasty did western missionaries in China begin to study Chinese Buddhism seriously and translate Buddhist Canon. As for the insight into Buddhist life and English translation of Buddhist Classics,Protestant missionaries from Britain were the most outstanding ones undoubtedly.
