Abstract本篇論文旨在探討永明延壽禪師所主張的禪淨融合思想. 中國佛教自唐末以降,幾乎為禪宗和淨土宗的天下,而禪淨融合和雙修更匯成佛教主流. 此中國佛教的獨特現象,其形成背景,理論基礎,及對唐後佛教之影響,都是值得探討的重要問題. 雖唐末以前即有禪淨融攝思想的出現,其大力提倡而集大成者是唐末五代時的永明延壽禪師. 他在百卷的巨著「宗鏡錄」中,大談禪教的互攝,在「萬善同歸集」中,更細論禪淨雙修的必要. 永明的生平,思想,及造成他的思想之時代社會政治背景等等,皆為解禪淨融合的重點.

基於上述要點,但因篇幅所限,本論文集中在思想方面的探討. 第一部份討論永明教與禪的融攝. 永明將佛教判為相宗空宗和性宗. 當時教界重玄理之談,泯絕一切. 禪宗之徒墮空見演變成狂禪而執理迷事. 而一般講教者則執事迷理. 永明斥兩者皆墮偏見,而力倡理事無空有相成的禪教觀. 第二部份討論永明禪與淨雙修的論基礎. 他以唯心淨土做為禪定和念佛兩種不同形態修行法門的橋樑. 雖永明的會通思想,使禪宗和淨土宗多少失去其各自突出的特性,但他的主張卻很能契合中國傳統融通思想,故產生很大的影響.
