AbstractThe article explores prejudices towards Buddhism, both religious and anti-religious. Particular focus is given to the reinvention and distortion of the Buddha and his teachings based on one's own prejudices, an option followed by author Stephen Batchelor and other like-minded contemporary people on the teachings of Buddhism on karma and rebirth. It highlights Batchelor's agnostic-turned-atheist approach to Buddhism through his books, including "Confession of a Buddhist Atheist."
