Abstract佛經歌詠在天竺稱為唄,傳入中國析為二事,詠經稱為轉讀,歌贊稱為梵唄。轉讀應含有兩種內容,即轉和讀,"轉"應指翻譯佛經,"轉讀"即將梵文或音譯、或意譯為漢語,再按一定聲腔、節奏去誦讀。 "梵唄"指佛經誦讀中的歌贊部分,在中土仍然保留了天竺詠唱方式。佛經翻譯在梵、漢語之間進行,梵文以表音見長,而漢字以表意為主,兩者之間並無聲調的聯繫。因此,在佛經翻譯和轉讀中,不能發現四聲。四聲發現當從漢語內部不同語音系統比較中來實現。

The eulogy to the Buddha,it was called Pathaka in ancient India,when it transmitted to China,it changed into two forms.The one which expressed the sutra was named Zhuan Du,the anther one of singing and eulogizing was called Pathaka.Zhuan Du included translation and chanting.Zhuan means translating Sanskrit into Chinese literally or semantically,Du instead of chanting it by certain tunes or rhythms in Chinese.The Buddha translation was between Sanskrit and Chinese.The former language was characteristic by its pronunciation expression and latter was inclined to express the meaning.There was no integrations existed in both tones of them.Therefore,the four tones of Chinese language was not discovered through the translation of the Buddha Sutra but by the comparison of different dialects in the inner linguistic systems of Chinese.
