Abstract不管修行人如何意志堅定,或是異熟果報的根身有任何的差異,睡眠(middha)是五蘊身心無法避免的調適狀態,這項生理與心理必須克服的問題,端視我們如何依循世尊的教誨來實踐與對治。
世尊在《雜阿含》(241 經)對初學曾言「寧當睡眠,不於彼色而起覺想」,看似鼓勵初學可安心睡眠,然而實際上經文的末端,世尊則交代心性調善者應「我當不眠,亦不起覺想」,為解脫者必具之精神。
睡眠與惛忱息息相關,為五蓋之一,黑暗相乃其特徵,經論多以光明想為淨治方法,雖則說世尊並不反對調適色身的睡眠或小憩,不過始終提醒修行者必須保持正念正知以待之,勿讓此項生理無法避免的調適──睡眠,成為懈怠放逸的推力,讓白法隱沒。
