| 抄録 | 현존하는 最古本인 『삼국유사』 정덕본이 1512년에 복간된 이래, 1900년에 일본학자 坪井九馬三이 처음으로 『삼국유사』의 해제를 발표하며 새로운 연구가 시작되었다. 이어 1914년에는 어윤적의 『東史年表』에 소개되었고, 1927 년에는 최남선의 교감본이 이계복의 정덕본 간행 415년 만에 국내에서 발간되었다.
그 후 최초의 『삼국유사』 국역이 진행되어 『조선야사전집』에 수록되었으나 그것은 부분적인 번역일 뿐 아니라 거의 현토를 단 정도이어서 명실상부한 국역본이라고 할 수는 없다. 이어 1935년에는 『野談』 창간호에 元翁이 번역물을 연재하였으나 그 역시 완역은 아니었다.
1946년, 이가원 등의 사서연혁회의 첫 국역 단행본 『三國遺事』가 나온 이후로 지금까지 『삼국유사』는 국내외 학자들에 의해 어린이용이나 부분적인 번역을 제외하고도, 약 50종 이상의 번역서가 출판되었다. 또 이와 관련된 단 행본만 해도 350권이 넘으며, 국내외의 크고 작은 관련 논문은 3000편을 넘어 그 내용을 파악하기가 어려울 정도이다.
『삼국유사』를 전문적으로 연구하는 학자나 몇몇 연구소도 활발하게 연구와 발표 활동을 하고 있다. 그만큼 『삼국유사』에 관한 관심과 연구의 중요성이 크다는 이야기일 것이다.
그러나 아쉽게도 50종이 넘는 대부분의 번역서는 부분적인 오역이나 불완전한 해석 등, 약간씩의 결함을 가지고 있다. 한글 번역본의 실정이 이렇다보니, 그것에 전적으로 의존하는 외국어 번역서의 오류는 필연적일 수밖에 없다. 외국어를 전공한 우수한 학자가 외국어 버전 『삼국유사』의 번역에 투입된다 하더라도, 현실적으로 그들에게는 정확한 한국어 저본이 가장 필요하다. 저본인 한글번역서의 오역은 그들의 외국어 능력과 무관하게, 한국전통문화에 대한 왜곡과 오해까지 일으켜 국제화 시대에 한국은 ‘이상한 나라’로 오해받을 소지도 내포하고 있다. 이에 본고에서는 『삼국유사』의 두 영어 번역본의 몇 가지 문제점을 짚어보았다.
After the oldest SAMGUK YUSA(正德本) was restored in 1512, the new research was accelerated by Cheuboy Kumejou(坪井九馬三, 1858~ 1936), a Japanese scholar, who published the bibliographical introduction of SAMGUK YUSA in 1900. It was introduced on Dongsa Yeonpyo(東史 年表) by Eo Yunjeok(魚允迪) in 1914, and 415 years have passed since the publishing of Jeongdeokbon(正德本) by Lee GyeBok, that the Gyogambon(校勘本) by Choi Namseon was published in 1927.
Then the first Korean translation of SAMGUK YUSA was issued in Joseonyasajeonjib(『朝鮮野史全集』) ; however, it was translated partially and composed of Hyeonto(懸吐), which means that it cannot be called complete Korean translation version of SAMGUK YUSA. And another Korean translation was published by Wonong(元翁, ?~?) in first issue of Yadam(『野談』) ; still it was not a complete Korean translation of SAMGUK YUSA.
The first complete Korean translation of SAMGUK YUSA by Saseoyeonhyeukhoi(史書沿革會) was issued in 1946. Since then there are many versions of complete Korean SAMGUK YUSA which was issued by more than 50 versions, and more than 350 paperbooks for different studies, more than 3000 research papers were issued also.
Still there are lots of scholars and research laboratories majoring in SAMGUK YUSA and they study and issue paper books very actively. So we can assume how much we are interested and concerned in SAMGUK YUSA.
But almost of the 50 versions of Korean translation have some defects such as mistranslation, uncomplicated interpretation, etc. As those 50 different versions of Korean translation have many errors, foreign language translations based on the Korean translations have lots of translation errors as well. This means that we need to have very accurate and correct volume of a complete Korean translation of SAMGUK YUSA. This will help to develop the foreign language translations more precisely. Moreover this result will help to decrease the misunderstanding of traditional Korean culture as well. So I have enlisted several problems in a complete English translation of SAMGUK YUSA in this research paper.
