This paper sketches out and discusses Buddhaghosa’s life story, his wri-ings,and the historical and religious backgrounds of his career; analyses thedhyna theories expounded in his Visuddhimagga; and points out his remarkablecontributions to the development and perfection of the Theravda Buddhistdeology.
