The author believes that Buddhism as a religion owes its birth to the political,economic and cultural realities in the Buddha′s time, and, in particular, to the conflicting cultures and contending schools of thought in eastern India, where, the author argues, Brahmanism had a strong influence but had not yet establish edits firm hold.
