On the Joseon Dynasty Schoalar Lee Gyugyeong'Understanding of Buddhism Lee Gyugyeong(1788-1856) of Korea's Joseon Dynasty authoured Random Expatitations of Oju(Wuzhou yanwen changjing sangao) and My Rematks on Poetry(Shijia diandeng). Both works comprise rich materials related to Buddhism. This essay analyzes some of the most interesting aspects of Lee Gyugeong's understanding of Buddhism, including his view on the introduction of Buddhism into Korea, it's various sects, the concept of reincarnation, the origin of the stone, money in Journey to the West, and the interrelationship between Buddhism and poetics. It's argues that Lee's writings have important academic values in the study of the exchange history concerning Buddhism and poetics between China and Korea.
