Author affiliation: Hans-Rudolf Kantor is Full Professor and Chair of the Graduate Institute of Asian Humanities at Huafan University in Taipei. He earned his PhD from the Department of Philosophy and Sinology of Bonn University in Germany 1998, spent 2 years as a visiting scholar at the Buddhist Komazawa University in Tokyo supported by the German Humboldt Foundation and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, and has been teaching at Huafan since 2000. His field of research embraces Buddhist Studies, Chinese Buddhist Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and CrossCultural Philosophy. Besides his German book on the philosophy of religion in Chinese Tiantai Buddhism published in 1999, he authored numerous articles in English, German, and Chinese on these topics published by academic journals such as Philosophy East and West, Journal of Chinese Philosophy, and Asian Philosophy as well as Chinese journals (such as Taiwan Journal of Buddhist Studies by Taida Foxue Yanjiu Zhongxin), and by American and German publishing companies (Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Harrassowitz). The publication of his translation of the lengthy chapter Po Fabian (“Universal Deconstruction of Dharmas”) from the sixth-century Chinese Tiantai Buddhist classic Mohe Zhiguan (The Great Calming and Contemplation) into German is forthcoming. His recent project in English on the Philosophy of Language and Linguistic Strategies in Chinese Buddhism(s) combines the methods of Buddhist Studies and cross-cultural philosophy, which will be soon accomplished.
