The present paper studies the emergence of the Mahayana Buddhism in the North as is evidenced by the canonization of the scriptures aond the icon construction driven by the Samadhi of Buddha’s Presence which came into being in the second century AD and coincided with the emergence of the Mahayana thoughts that developed in Central Asia and northwest India. Combined with other great scriptures, they became the core source spring for the later canonization and icon construction.
