Relations between pictures of Eight Trigrams on each face of the stupa base and figures of Seven Buddhas and Maitreya on the stupa are to diagrammatize the Seven Buddhas and Maitreya of Buddhism by using the thought of Zhouyi of the Chinese traditional culture. On the top of the Northern Liang stone stupa built by the Gao family, the picture of the Big Dipper in opposition to pictures of Eight Trigrams shows the time ,space and position. This paper studies the doom thought, samsara, and the Maitreya faith in the pictures of Seven Buddhas and Maitreya,and refers emergance of figures on the Northern Liang stone stupas to a solid foundation Chinese traditional culture in Hexi area in the periods of Wei, Jin and Sixteen Kingdoms.
