這一時期的臺灣佛教，其特色是名士佛教。這可以由兩個方面來說明，首先，就這一時期的佛教寺廟來看，主要是明末遺臣或是鄭氏遺臣所興建。其次，此一時期的名士佛教，遺留下許許多多的詩詞歌賦，透露出當時佛教發展的概況，成為臺灣文化史上的瑰寶。而清朝佛教，其特色是禪淨雙修與神佛不分。這些特色具體而微的表現於臺灣各種方志內。因此，本計畫擬就明清時期與佛教有關之台灣各地《地方志》、《臺灣歷史文獻叢刊（方志類）》、《臺灣歷史文獻叢刊（明鄭史料類）》、《臺灣通志》、《臺灣方志集成：清代篇》及《臺灣歷史文獻叢刊（詩文集類）》、《臺灣詩錄》等資料建構全文數位資料庫。
