AbstractIt was a significant doctrine of gotama buddha that there is no self (anatta). he did not deny the existence of the human body. he might, then, have identified the self with the body,as this paper does. that is, there is no personal self other than the physical organism. the familiar objections to this doctrine, having to do with personal identity through time, are considered.
