Abstract一般的觀點來說,人們的思惟必先經過語言才表現,且語言必具其所指示的對象. 所以在印度,為究明語言與對象間的必然關係,像「正論派」肯定知識 (語言) 是客觀的顯示 -- 「名實相應」. 但佛教對語言的基本思想是,自從《般若經》以來,都認為一切分別是由於語言表現而有的,而這樣被語言表現出來的東西,是虛構而無實體性的. 於是經中主張所謂「一切事物都是空的」 (sarvadharmaa`s `suunyaa.h, 一切法空).

本文主討論在整個佛學發展中,對語言之概念如何發展下去,其次則深討僧肇如何繼承般若中觀思想,而論證自己的「假名觀」.
