AbstractAlthough T'ao Yuan-ming was well versed in Confucianism and Buddhism, his poetry is permeated with Taoist concepts. Much of his poetry shows a communion with nature similar to that of Wordsworth. In his Taoist vision he perceives nature as a manifestation of the "Tao"--i.e.,the ultimate truth. This essay attempts to show that Tao's poetry records his quest for an epiphany of the Taoist utopia which transcends the banal experiences but is nonetheless attainable by men of vision.
