Abstract本文從知識、人生現象、人的行為活動與沈淪過程三方面討論古奧義書與初期佛學中關於人性沈淪之觀點。主旨在逐一檢視無明(avidyā) 與明(vidyā)、初期佛學的苦(dukkha)及集(samudaya)、業 (karma)與輪迴(samsara)六項概念學說其用詞、意義、內涵、理論、學說、觀點、立場是否相似或不同,藉此說明佛教學說是否受到古奧義書啟發、影響。雙方思潮皆同樣關注人性沈淪此項重大議題,雖則雙方一致關切何者為造成沈淪之因、如何造成沈淪、脫離沈淪之方法,但雙方對人生最大渴望之目標、價值取向、實現此目標之方法大相逕庭。用詞雖相同,但各自所表述之概念內涵、學說、觀點、立場並不相同。古奧義認為,錯誤認知真實的自我阿特曼是造成自我沈淪之主因,並由行為主體者、認識論、形上學方面加以解釋。但初期佛學則主張,渴愛與貪執結合是造成人沈淪之主因,並由認識論、道德倫理方面加以解說。雙方的解說各自與其根本立場一致,即古奧義書偏重宇宙中心論,且由此立場及主張行為主體中心論(agent-centric)的人類中心論立場,而提出恆常論、本質論,但初期佛學則由非行為主體中心論(non-agent-centric)的人類中心論立場而主張無常論、非本質論。
