Abstract自公元八世紀的桑耶論諍以來，大部分藏傳佛教學者都批評摩訶衍的教法。本文的目的有二：(1)據藏傳史冊追溯藏傳佛教學者對摩訶衍的論述，並考察其間不同階段的變化。(2)據《頓悟大乘正理抉》及摩訶衍教法的斷簡殘章分析摩訶衍的思想，說明藏傳佛教學者對摩訶衍的理解未必公允。本文並試圖指出，摩訶衍實已對桑耶論諍所呈現的頓漸兩難提供一個解答。
