| Abstract | 鐮田茂雄教授，１９２７年生於日本神奈川縣鐮倉市。１９５１年畢業於駒澤大學文學部佛教學科。１９５３年到１９５８年在東京大學大學院人文科學研究科修學修士 (碩士 )、博士課程。１９６２年在東京大學獲博士學位並在該校任教。曾在東京獲日本傳道文化獎。１９８８年從東京大學退休 ,任愛知學院大學教授 ,翌年獲東京大學名譽教授稱號。現為日本東京國際佛教大學教授。鐮田教授以研究中國華嚴宗和中國佛教史著稱 ,在研究中他注意結合中國社會的歷史環境來考察中國佛教的發展和民族特色，著作宏富。
