Abstract佛光山星雲大師一生做了無數弘揚佛法的事業,尤其是,留下了許多膾炙人口的智慧法語,他所撰寫的《佛光菜根譚》,仿照明代洪應明《菜根譚》的形式,提供世人智慧的法寶。明代《菜根譚》以儒道智慧為主,星雲大師《佛光菜根譚》加上了佛教的智慧;前者以服務的人生觀道盡處事的技巧,後者以般若智、菩提心述說成佛的智慧。然因星雲大師不以佛法高人,不談鬼變神通,所說竟與《菜根譚》表面上無大差別。其實,在大乘佛法之中,入世與出世本就不予分別,都是菩薩淨土以及成佛道場,閱讀星雲大師《佛光菜根譚》,理解之、詮釋之、分享之,正是自己成長與結緣大眾的美事。

Venerable Master Hsing Yun of Fo Guang Shan has spared no efforts in his life to propagate the Buddha’s teachings. Particularly, he bestowed many highly praised and wise Dharma words. His selected works of Humble Table, Wise Fare, modeled on The Caigentan by Hong Yingming in the Ming dynasty, offers the wise Dharma gem to many. The Caigentan of the Ming dynasty is based on Confucian wisdom and Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Humble Table, Wise Fare has added the wisdom of Buddhism. The former uses a life perspective of being of service to others to bring
forth skills in business, and the latter with Prajñā wisdom and bodhicitta to illustrate the wisdom of attaining Buddhahood. However, Venerable Master never used the Dharma to feel superior, nor talked about ghosts and supernatural powers. All that he speaks of is not much different to The Caigentan on the surface level. In fact, there is no difference between transcendental and the worldly in the teachings of Mahāyāna as both are considered pure land of bodhisattvas and palaces of cultivation in attaining Buddhahood. Upon reading Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Humble Table, Wise Fare, through its understanding, interpretation, and sharing, it is indeed wonderful to selfdevelop
and make affinities with others.
