| Abstract | 十八羅漢是佛教中國化的重要產物，是中國羅漢信仰的重要形式，自唐代產生後迅速發展，影響遠超過「正統」的十六羅漢。歷史上關於十八羅漢多出來的兩位究竟是誰，一直沒有定論，由此出現不同的系統。佛光山系統的十八羅漢是中國羅漢信仰的最新發展與重大變革，尤其是將具名的女性羅漢吸納進來，具有重要的歷史意義與時代價值，彰顯了星雲大師回歸佛陀本懷的弘法宗旨。
The Eighteen Arhats are significant products of sinicization in Buddhism which play an important role in the representation of the Chinese arhat beliefs. Through the rapid development of its appearance since the Tang dynasty, the veneration of the Eighteen Arhats has gained wider influence than that of the traditional Sixteen Arhats. In the course of history, there is no clear consensus on who were the two additional arhats. As such, two different systems developed. The Eighteen Arhats in Fo Guang Shan are the latest development and evolution of the Chinese arhat beliefs. The inclusion of the female arhats etched an important significance of the values upheld in the current era. Also, the addition of the arhats reveals the original intents of the Buddha as advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. |
