| Abstract | 摩揭陀的阿闍世是阿育王之前古代印度最有權勢的國王。本文討論阿闍世王在早期印度思想史上所涉及的一些問題。論文先從初期印度政治體制蛻變來探討摩揭陀國之興起，接著再探究婆羅門跟沙門文本皆出現阿闍世的意涵。再來更進一步檢視社會關係之改變如何促成沙門與國王的結合以及佛陀時代宗教倫理思潮。文章最後以經文及佛音對阿闍世王弒父後心理創傷之批註當為佛陀對此一事件所加評論之註腳。
King Ajātasattu of Magadha is the most powerful king in ancient India before Aśoka. This paper brings up issues with Ajātasattu in early Indian intellectual history for discussion. It starts with the rise of Magadha from the perspective of political transformation in early historical India. This paper then explores implications of Ajātasattu appearing in both Brahmanical and Śramanical texts. It also examines how the change of social relations leads to a close alliance between king and renouncer. Religio-ethical climate at the era of the Buddha is then deliberated. The last part of the essay uses Suttas and Buddhaghosa's annotations on Ajatasattu's emotional trauma after committing patricide as notes of the
Buddha's comments on this event. |
