Abstract三衣和臥具皆是僧眾生活的必需品:三衣為日常起居之所穿,臥具是被褥等躺臥用品,兩者用途不一。可是,中土四分律宗巨擘道宣疏解比丘捨墮戒時,指其中所謂「臥具四戒」中的「臥具」實是「三衣」,並倡禁著蠶絲衣,惹來另一律學大家義淨的駁斥;其他四分律師及學僧亦作討論,成為中土戒律史上一場重要的爭議,但漢語學界對此探討較少。筆者試圖網羅各派律藏、律論的相關記載,以及各律師學僧的疏解,順次逐一析論,指出從經證、律義、字詞用法等方面看,道宣等人之說既不乏根據,且對律製作出「創造性詮釋」;而道宣跟義淨之間,並無實質性的矛盾。期望本文除釐清這場爭議的來龍去脈外,亦補漢語學界的空白。

Three robes and bedclothes are the necessities of monks‟ lifebut they have different usages: three robes are for daily wearingwhile bedclothes are for resting or sleeping. However, Daoxuan, thefounder of Chinese Vinaya School, viewed that the “bedclothes”discussed in the so-called “four precepts on bedclothes” are in fact “three robes”. Daoxuan also advocated the prohibition of silk robes.All these were refuted by Yijing, the chief translator of the Mūlasarvāstivāda-Vinaya. Other Vinaya masters commented on that issue as well. This paper tries to gather all the relevant informations from various Vinaya, the commentaries on the Vinaya and the works of Chinese Buddhist masters, with an eye to trace and comment on the origin and development of that “bedclothes issue” and points out that there is no substantial divergence between Daoxuan and Yijing.
