[Abstract] Geometrical optics, when applied to vision cognition, treats eyeball, retina, optic, etc. as its basic system. This system seems to be all about material “eyes”. But Buddha Sakyamuni said “The Nature of Seeing is due to mind, not eyes”. The aim of this essay is mainly to resolve the seeming contradiction between the scientific and the Buddhist concepts of vision cognition. We first use ‘geometrical optics’ to demonstrate scientifically that all phenomena are only what the Observer’s Mind Manifests (OOMM). Then we see from the noumenal view of Tathagata what the 「Nature of Seeing」 is. And we further proceed to draw out very deeply a simple flow path of how the Nature of Seeing finally develops into the six ‘floating dust roots’. Based on the simple flow path we can fully understand that the M(Mind) of OOMM should refer to the vision system of the retina, nerves, etc. In other words, the seeming contradiction between the concepts of scientific ‘eyes’ and Buddhist ‘Mind’ does not actually exist in fact. Due to the understanding of the mentioned simple flow path which leads to six ‘floating dust roots’, we briefly introduce a way of Buddhist practice , namely “Securing one’s Self-nature in six floating dust roots”. This is a practice mainly to control the activities of the six Spirits (somewhat like dust grasping elements) in the six ‘floating dust roots’, not allowing the Spirits to be occupied all day by the things in the domain of the six dusts. This way of cultivation will reduce, and even eliminate, irrational and unreal thinking. This way could clean up all the six roots. When the six roots are cleaned up one may continue to achieve the state of ‘bunching together the six conjunctions into an enlightenment’ and finally to become Buddha.
