There are numerous expedient approaches to the study of Buddhism. Today, many put forth efforts to master it by means of Western philosopphy. Yet the author prefers to begin with the philosophy of the `Agamas` as an approach easier at hand. The Four `Agamas` mainly treats of dharma marks and dharma doors. As to dharma nature and dharma realm, only the words themselves are mentioned. In fact, however,if one knows a real dharma mark or dharma door,it is not different from the dharma nature and dharma realm of true suchness. The Buddha dharma is the non-dual dharma door where all dharmas are equal. Thus, in terms of realism, matter itself as well as phenomena are true suchness. Though two, they are one. This does not mean that one should not differentiate between conditioned phenomena and unconditioned principle. As there are both analysis and synthesis, the whole can be divided into its parts and the parts united into the whole. In this way,one attains to a comprehensive understanding. The author is not well read in either Buddhism or Western philosophy. In composing the present paper,he did not rely on actual knowledge but rather on quotations he collected while reading. It was the author's simple hope to evoke a response, and he is looking forward to your learned corrections.
