Unregistered temples have always been banned by the feudalist governments since the Tang Dynasty. But governments of Jin Dynasty made some compromises by making these unregistered temples registered and allowing them to pay certain sum of money and purchase temple-name from governments. The practice of selling identity card of Buddhist and temple-name catered to the demand of temple expansion, and actually made these temples as legal existence. It did help the renaissance of Buddhism and Taoism in that period as its role in the relationship between the government and religion observed. Furthermore, it is beneficial to alleviate the financial crisis, lighten peasant's burden, relieve the disaster and stimulate the currency circulation.
