In this paper, we take the theoretical analysis and historical research on the authenticity of The Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith, which is one of the major focuses of Buddhist Studies for nearly a hundred years. Firstly, the catalogs of Buddhist texts are checked carefully. Secondly, following the work of Gaojing Deng 鄧高鏡 that The Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith and Explanation of the Treatise on Mahāyāna was translated by Paramārtha as a whole at the same time, and the work of Yinque Chen 陳寅恪 that in spite of the preface of The Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith is false, there are true historical materials in the preface, we carry out our demonstration。 Finally, whether Paramārtha’s thought consists with the doctrines of The Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith related to the problem that The Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith was forgotten by Chinese or a translation of Sanskrit by Paramārtha, and whether Jiu-shi-zhang was translated or written by Paramārtha which is important in the analysis of Paramārtha’s thought, is discussed. Our conclusion is that The Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith was translated by Paramārtha.
