The eulogy to the Buddha,it was called Pathaka in ancient India,when it transmitted to China,it changed into two forms.The one which expressed the sutra was named Zhuan Du,the anther one of singing and eulogizing was called Pathaka.Zhuan Du included translation and chanting.Zhuan means translating Sanskrit into Chinese literally or semantically,Du instead of chanting it by certain tunes or rhythms in Chinese.The Buddha translation was between Sanskrit and Chinese.The former language was characteristic by its pronunciation expression and latter was inclined to express the meaning.There was no integrations existed in both tones of them.Therefore,the four tones of Chinese language was not discovered through the translation of the Buddha Sutra but by the comparison of different dialects in the inner linguistic systems of Chinese.
