『金光明經』 三身說에 대한 元曉의 이해 -- 慈恩基와 淨影慧遠과의 비교 고찰을 통하여 =A Comparison of the Views of Wonhyo, Cien Ji and Jingying Huiyuan on the ‘Three Buddha Bodies’ as Presented in the Golden Light Sutra

대승불교의 대표적 불신론이라고 할 수 있는 三身說은 여러 경전에 설해져있지만 그 명칭과 설명은 경전에 따라 차이가 있다. 호국경전으로 잘 알려져있는 『金光明經』은 삼신을 설하는 대표적 경전들 중 하나로서 여러 동아시아 논사들의 주목을 받았다. 이 경전에 설해진 삼신설에 대한 해석은 논사들의 사상적 입장에 따라 상이하게 나타나기 때문에 『금광명경』 삼신설에 대한 해석의 차이점을 통해 논사들 간의 사상적 차이점을 살펴볼 수 있다. 元曉 (617-686)의 『금광명경』 의 주석인 『金光明經疏』 는 일실되어 현존하지 않지만, 일본 삼론승 간교(願曉, 835-871)의 『金光明最勝王經玄樞』등 고대 일본 승려들의『금광명경』 주석에 원효소의 인용문이 포함되어 있고, 현존하는 원효의 저술에 산발적으로『금광명경소』가 인용되어 있다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 잔간들을 바탕으로 상대적으로 충분한 연구가 이루어지지 않은 원효의 『금광명경』 삼신설에 대한 입장을 고찰하고, 이 원효의 입장을 慈恩 基(632-682)와 淨影慧遠(523-592)의『금광명경』삼신설에 대한 해석과 비교한다. 이를 통해 이 세 논사들의 삼신론에 대한 해석의 상위성을 살펴보고 나아가 이러한 삼신론해석의 상위성이 그들의 사상적 입장과도 연결되어 있음을 고찰한다.
The theory of the “three Buddha bodies” (Skt. trikāya 三身) is a well-known doctrine of Mahāyāna Buddhism. However, Buddhist scripture accounts of this theory show a wide range of variation. The Golden Light Sutra (Skt. Suvarṇaprabhāsottama-sūtra, Ch. Jinguangming jing, K. Geumgwangmyeong gyeong 金光明經) is one of the most prominent scriptures that discusses this theory. Many East Asian exegetes paid attention to this theory as it was presented in the Golden Light Sutra, but their interpretations of it differed according to their doctrinal positions. This article explores the Silla exegete Wonhyo’s 元曉 (617-686) position on the theory of three Buddha bodies by comparing his interpretations of the Golden Light Sutra to Cien Ji’s （慈恩基 632-682) and Jingying Huiyuan’s （淨影慧遠 523-592). Although Wonhyo’s commentary on the Golden Light Sutra, the Geumgwangmyeong gyeong so (金光明經疏), no longer exists, the Japanese monk Gangyō 願曉 (835– 871) cites a significant part of Wonhyo’s text in his own commentary on the sutra, the Konkōmyō saishō ō kyō gensū (金光明最勝王經玄樞). By comparing Wonhyo’s commentary to Cien Ji’s and Jingying Huiyuan’s, this article ultimately aims to bring about a better understanding of Wonhyo’s scholastic position within the contemporary dynamics of the East Asian Buddhist tradition.
