Abstract南傳佛教是分別說部中赤銅鍱系的大寺派,西元五世紀覺音編纂的《清淨道論》,迄今仍為南傳佛教中極代表性的一部禪修指導手冊大全.
此論內容,以《阿含經》之七清淨次第為主軸,以戒.定.慧三學分類,「心清淨」屬定範圍,詳實記載了四十種修止業處,從「見清淨」至「智見清淨」屬慧,也極細緻地指示毗婆舍那(觀)的修習次第.可說,於目前現存諸聲聞禪觀論籍中,論及條理清晰,有系統.有層次且又最集中.最詳盡概括的即反映在這部論裡.
比較起中國佛教的龐大與複雜性,南傳經論及註疏顯得較單純,當然,並不表示他們禪修觀點或主張就完全一致,間存有不同看法,甚至各自詡為正統或自以為佛說的,也似乎普遍.
本文以《清淨道論》的修觀次第為主,也橫面處理幾項引生問題,例如剎那定的使用,以滅為所緣,出定而觀,過未與外觀等究竟是推論抑或是現證等,還有,即可視為極具特色之一的「一剎那中現觀四諦」等,皆依《清淨道論》中寫出,對有興趣於了解南傳佛教傳統禪觀者,也許有點啟發的作用吧.
