Abstract | 人間佛教是當代華人佛教的主流形態,主張要為現實人生服務,契合了中國社會現代轉型之需要。其理念以「理性化」為特徵,注重佛法的生活化與社會關懷。這種新佛教的成功,既緣於印度大乘佛教的思想傳統,同時還植根於中國傳統宗教生活的人文精神。不同於西方以有神論為中心的宗教觀,中國宗教堪稱是「人文宗教」,以人文教化為用,以感應道交為體。實踐中的人間佛教,既重視文化與教育的功能,也關注信眾的生命體驗與解脫。
Humanistic Buddhism is the main form of contemporary Chinese Buddhism, which advocates to serve in everyday life, and corresponds to the needs of the modern transformation of Chinese society. The concept of “rationality” is regarded as an important feature of Humanistic Buddhism, and it implies that Buddhism should focus on daily life and social concerns. At the same time, it holds Buddhism’s ultimate concern as liberation in life. The success of this type of new Buddhism firstly originates from the tradition of Indian Mahayana Buddhism, but is also rooted in the humanistic spirit of traditional Chinese religious life. Different to the religious view of theism in the West, Chinese religion could be termed a “humanistic religion” that takes social education as the main application and divine inspirations as experience.
