Abstract | The purpose of this thesis is to study philosophy of education in the view of Phradhammapitaka (Prayudh Payutto). The content of the thesis is divided into three parts.
Firstly : it is general analysis of the major premises of Philosophy : metaphysics, epistemology, life philosophy and social Philosophy in the view of Phradhammapitaka.
Secondly : it is an analysis of Philosophy of education in the view of Phradhammapitaka that consists in the 3 factors or elements of education, they are schools, teachers, students, curriculum and studying and teaching methods.
Thirdly : it is to show the relations between the major premises of Philosophy and Philosophy of education in the view of Phradhammapitaka and how to apply his idea to Thai education.
The results of study can be summed up as follows :
1. In Buddhism, metaphysics is to study about the truth of all things, e.g., three signs of existence, and the Dependent Origination ; epistemology is to study the meditation and the insight development for practice so as to realize the ultimate truth, ethics is to study and live a moral life in accordance with the natural law.
2. The aim of education is human-life liberation from ignorance both within and without, Education is the development of life leading to the cessation of all suffering. As for education factors, schools, teachers, students, curriculum and studying and teaching methods should be well related to or go hand in hand with one another ; especially, teachers, and students must be weel determined in their own duties.
3. Phradhammapitaka's Philosophy of Education comes close to Essentialism and Progressivism. He gives equally significant roles to both teachers and students with regard to their duties. Education in the view of Phradhammapitaka is not separate from Buddhism. Hence, education is the development of life and the Problem-solving method and the original view of Phradhammapitaka is based on Buddhadhamma (Buddhist doctines) which can be applied to various activities. |
