Abstract | The purpose of this thesis is to study the concepts of Kamma and cycle of rebirth in Theravada Buddhist philosophy as affect the life style of contemporary Thai Buddhists. The contents of the thesis are divided into two main parts:
a.The part on the concepts of Kamma and cycle of rebirth in Theravada Buddhist philosophy. b.The part on these concepts as affect the life style of contemporary Thai Buddhist. In the first part, the researcher has studied the concepts of Kamma and cycle of rebirth in the Tripitaka and commentaries, and then he find that these two concepts are related to each other. Additionally, the researcher raises the two philosophical systems, which are contrary to Theravada Buddhist philosophy, to an examination, comparing with Theravada Buddhist philosophy. These two philosophical systems are Sassataditthi and Ucchedaditthi. In the second part, the researcher has studied the influence of the concepts of Kamma and cycle of rebirth on the life style of contemporary Thai Buddhists, using data both in documentary sources and empirical. As the results of the study, he finds that concepts of Kamma and cycle of rebirth in Theravada Buddhist philosophy have a positive influence on the believers : that is, they are the cause of moral actions. |
