Abstract佛教對於了知自性空是重要之課題。自性之梵文語詞 svabhāva 與 prakṛti,其詞意有事物本來如此,都有天生的素質與自然的素質之意思。一切有部認為svabhāva 與 prakṛti 是看為同義。唯識學者說明三性是以 svabhāva 為主,真常學者的心本性清淨多數是用 prakṛti 一詞。有部學者們主張我、物、自體、相、分、本性即是自性,並指出諸法皆有一一之實體。唯識主張三性或三無性,對於遍計
所執認為是非實有自性;依他起和圓成實卻不同。依他起是實有亦是假有,類似有部的假必依實,雖然立了生無性但是亦表明是假說為無,非性全無。圓成實性不論是在三性的立場認為是有自性而在三無性是婉轉的說明非性全無。中觀學者認為自性不能成立,他性亦不能成立,顯示自性非緣起,而緣起本身是空無自性。因為諸法是因緣而生因緣而滅,所以不能說諸法是實有自性。
