Abstract南宋時期,僧人茅子元以念佛法門為主體,創立白蓮宗,從教理、教制、傳法等方面建立了一個淨土宗派的組織體系,並設立在家人傳持佛教的「白衣傳授」制度,得到迅速發展。但在很短的時間內,其教派組織自身的缺陷突顯出來,派內漸趨混亂,導致屢屢被禁,難以為繼。元代白蓮宗宗主普度面對教內混亂狀況,乃集《廬山蓮宗寶鑑》一著,旨在「救其法之衰邪,扶其教之不振」,對於促進後世淨土教派的形成產生了頗為深遠的影響。普度依據《蓮宗寶鑑》論述的思想,通過一系列的努力,促進了白蓮宗的改造及其轉化,形成淨土教的教理修行體系,使淨土教取得了獨立於其他各宗的地位。普度突出淨土教的「宗派」特點,強化「教派」意味,從而促使淨土宗逐步成為一個名符其實的教派,達到興復淨土教乃至整個佛教的目的。
