Abstract | The Symposium on Evan Thompson’s book Waking, Dreaming, Being gathers together papers that were first presented at an “Author Meets Critics” session at the Pacific Division of the American Philosophical Association, in Vancouver, in April 2015. The richness and complexity of the issues under consideration (the phenomenology and neurophysiology of waking, dream, and deep meditative states; intramural debates about self and self-awareness in Buddhism; and the scope and reach of methodological pluralism and interdisciplinarity in crosscultural philosophy, among many other topics) showcase the new perspectives that can come to light when we establish a meaningful and productive dialogue between different philosophical traditions and cultures. |
