| Abstract | 《佛國記》英譯目前可知的7家11譯裡，威爾遜譯文（A.D.1839）、塞克斯譯文（A.D. 1841）、萊德利譯文（A.D. 1848）的底本均為法譯本（A.D. 1836），而法譯本之底源自明．毛晉編輯的叢書《津逮秘書》裡的《佛國記》單行本；畢爾初譯（A.D. 1869）及重
譯（A.D. 1884）之底為清．張海鵬的《學津討原》第七集第六文《佛國記》；翟理斯初譯（A.D. 1877）及重譯（A.D. 1923）之底為清．《欽定四庫全書》之《佛國記》；理雅各譯文（A.D. 1886）之底為日．玄韻和尚以《高麗藏》為底的校勘本《高僧法顯傳》；李榮熙初譯（A.D. 1956, 1957）之底為日．足立喜六的校勘本《法顯傳考證》，重譯（A.D. 2002）之底為日．佛教傳道協會選定的《大正藏》之《高僧法顯傳》。各底本分別在內容與形制上對各自的譯文產生影響。
In the 11 English translations of Fo Guo Ji, the versions of H. H. Wilson's (A.D. 1839), W. H. Sykes' (A.D. 1841) and J. W. Laidlay's (A.D. 1848) were reproduced from the French translation (A.D. 1836) which originated from Fo Guo Ji in Jin Dai Mi Shu, compiled by Mao Jin of Ming Dynasty. The source text (ST) of S. Beal's two translations (A.D. 1869, 1884) was Fo Guo Ji in Xue Jin Tao Yuan, compiled by Zhang Haipeng in Qing Dynasty. The ST of H. A. Giles's two translations (A.D. 1877, 1923) was Fo Guo Ji in Qin Ding Si Ku Quan Shu compiled in Qing Dynasty. James Legge's (A.D. 1886) ST
was Gao Sen Fa Xian Zhuan, compiled and annotated by Japanese monk Xuan-yun. The ST of Li Rongxi's first two versions (A.D. 1956, 1957) was Fa Xian Zhuan Kao Zheng, compiled and annotated by Japanese scholar Kiroku Adachi; that of the third (A.D. 2002), Gao Sen Fa Xian Zhuan in Japanese Taishō chosen by BDK. Each ST casts influences upon its translated version both in meaning and form. |
