Is there any connection between Buddhist’ highest final goal “Nirvāṇa” and Christian’s “Kingdom of God”? How is it possible for Nirvāṇa or Heaven to be found here and now? This paper intends to explore the reasons and basis that Thich Nhat Hanh adopted for his argument that Nirvāṇa is always there, Nirvāṇa is available everywhere. This paper is divided into mainly three parts. Firstly, it briefly introduces the definition and significance of Nirvāṇa, in particularly according to Thich Nhat Hanh’s interpretation. Secondly, based on the Chinese Dharmapada, it tries to summarize Thich Nhat Hanh’s commentary on the Nirvāṇa Chapter, with the purpose to understand the basis of Buddhist texts regarding the Applied Buddhism thought of the Chan master. Finally, through the reading of certain paragraphs in Thich Nhat Hanh’s monograph “Living Buddha, Living Christ”, this paper pays attention to the mysterious similarities
between Buddha, Jesus, Nirvāṇa and Holy Spirit.
