Ven. Chi Chern has made significant contribution to the composition of Buddhist hymns. He has composed many Buddhist hymns and proclaimed himself a messenger in popularising local Buddhist hymns. His works are full of Buddhist philosophy yet do not lose the beauty of literature, especially in the use of analogy. Lamps and seas often appear in his Buddhist hymns. Lamps symbolize the dispelling of darkness of ignorance and the brightness of wisdom; the seas represent vastness and depth. The use of analogy enables him to express the meaning of his hymns clearly and distinctively. |
