Abstract佛教作為泰國的傳統宗教,在約6617 萬人口中,佛教徒約佔93.5%。如今以 上座部為主的泰國佛教,後因越南、中國的僧人陸續來泰,誕生了漢傳佛教「越 宗」、「華宗」兩個宗派;另外,近二十年來,臺灣佛教團體來泰建立新道場, 傳播「人間佛教」思想,形成了豐富而多元的漢傳佛教面貌。

「人間佛教在海外的影響如何」逐漸成為一個有價值的研究課題,在對東南 亞漢傳佛教信仰的研究中,結合宗教社會史和佛教文獻的系統研究尚少有見及。 本論文與前人研究最大不同在於,尤其從泰國的佛教環境著手,闡述「人間佛教」 在近代泰國的歷史和發展現狀,希望給予大家一個比較客觀且全面的認知,這是 本文研究的動機所在。

本文採用歐大年(Daniel Overmyer)提倡的「歷文實」(HTF)(即「歷史」 〔history〕、文獻〔text〕和「實地調查」〔fieldwork〕)的宗教研究方法,透過歷史、 佛教等文獻探析太虛大師的「人間佛教」教育思想,及其與泰國漢傳佛教的互動 交流,再由田野考察來探究泰國漢傳佛教和「人間佛教」的發展與實踐,同時, 以教育事業為例,說明泰國漢傳佛教是符合「人間佛教」特質的;最後從泰國「人 間佛教」在地化的現況來分析此種弘化模式是未來的發展趨勢。

Buddhism is the traditional religion of Thailand, with 93.5% of the population of 66.17 million people being Buddhists. Today, Buddhism in Thailand is predominantly Theravada, but the arrival of monastics from Vietnam and China has led to the creation of two sects of Chinese Buddhism, the Anam Nikaya (越宗) and the Jin Nikaya (華宗). In addition, in the last two decades, Taiwanese Buddhist groups have come to Thailand to set up new monasteries and spread the thought of “Humanistic Buddhism”, creating a diverse Chinese Buddhist landscape.

The question of “what is the influence of ‘Humanistic Buddhism’ abroad” is becoming a valuable topic of study. In the study of Chinese Buddhist beliefs in Southeast Asia, few systematic studies integrate the social history of religion and Buddhist literature. The main difference between this article and previous studies is that it focuses on the history and development of “Humanistic Buddhism” in contemporary Thailand, especially in the Thai Buddhist context, in the hope of providing a more objective and comprehensive understanding, which is the motivation for this study.

This article adopts “HTF ” (i.e. “history”, “text”, and “fieldwork”) research methods as advocated by Daniel Overmyer. An exploration of Master Tai Xu’s educational philosophy of “Humanistic Buddhism” and its interaction with Chinese Buddhism in Thailand through historical and Buddhist literature, and then explores the development and practice of “Humanistic Buddhism” through fieldwork while taking education as an example to show that Chinese Buddhism in Thailand is in line with the characteristics of “Humanistic Buddhism”. Finally, this article examines the current situation of the localization of “Humanistic Buddhism” in Thailand and argues that this approach is the future trend in the promotion of Buddhism.
